As listed in Rod and Staff's 2011 Catalog
Many science books have been written about the wonders of God's world, but very few give God the credit for His creation. Rod & Staff's textbooks strive to help teachers make their science classes God- and Bible-centered.
To avoid the pitfalls of error, teachers should be aware of and remember these four principles of teaching science:
|
Grade 1 Those who are looking for science and social studies for Grade 1 may want to use some of the Little Jewel Books and the God Is Good Series. Although not prepared as curriculum, many of them contain a sampling of science and social studies concepts. This free pamphlet gives suggestions to help teachers develop the concepts in these storybooks. |

Grade 2 This course consists of 30 lessons bound bound in an illustrated workbook. Science, at this level, mainly involves identification. Such subjects as seasons, seeds, wildflowers, weeds, trees, mammals, insects, songbirds, and the celestial bodies are introduced on the child's level. Pupils are taught to recognize seeds by their shapes; wildflowers by the shape of their leaves, the design of their flowers, and their colors; trees by the shape of their leaves; and so on. Pupils also learn such things as the colors of birds, mammals, and parts of trees by coloring them in their workbooks. Through this study, pupils gain an enjoyment and appreciation of nature and recognize God as the Creator. Most exercises in the workbook are self-explanatory and can be done independently by the students after the lesson has been discussed with them. A review and a test follow every fifth lesson. The teacher's manual booklet gives instructions on teaching the lessons and contains the answer key. |

God's World Series is being developed as our core science and health curriculum. This series embodies the major branches of science.
The textbooks and teacher's manuals are all hardcover. The teacher's manuals contain black-and-white copies of each pupil's page. Surrounding the pupil's page are the answer key, the lesson guide, and other helpful teaching aids. The teacher's manuals are written and designed with inexperienced teachers in mind. While the science activities suggested are not essential to completing the course, they are designed to be economical and easy to apply. Of this new series, only grades 3-7 are available at this time. |
|
Grade 3 This hardcover textbook contains 7 units with 4-8 lessons per unit plus a review lesson for each unit. There are 39 lessons, 7 review lessons, and 7 tests. The text of each regular lesson has 2 parts -- the first part for oral reading and discussion and the second for individual comprehension and exercise. The 7 units cover water; solids, liquids, gases; the seasons; heat and cold; care of the body; animals; farming, machines, stewardship. The theme of the book is God's care of man and nature. The Bible theme identifies scientific facts that relate to the story of Noah. The unit tests are available in a separate test booklet. |

Grade 4 This hardbound textbook contains 7 units with a review lesson for each unit. The 31 regular lessons are divided into 63 class sections. (Groups of exercises are interspersed in each lesson to help students find answers more efficiently.) Most regular lessons contain a short review exercise. Students will study weather, animal life, star constellations, light, electricity, plant life. Health and safety are addressed in a unit on human disease and in some lessons such as the lesson on the eye. Each unit is self-contained, and the units can be studied in any order. References from the Book of Job help establish the theme of the book: "God's Inspiring World." The 7 unit tests are available in a separate test booklet. The answers are in the back of the teacher's manual. The teacher's manual shows reduced student pages along with helpful teacher notes, answers, quizzes, and concepts to teach. |

Grade 5 This course contains 48 lessons and 8 unit tests. A review lesson for the unit precedes each test. All other lessons also include a review exercise. The first unit teaches orderly and effective scientific study. Other units cover anatomy (health), arthropods, chemistry, sound, earth science, nonflowering plants, and machines and motion. The book theme, "God's Wonderful World," emphasizes various marvels in science and frequently draws from the Psalms. The book also imparts the values of safety, prevention, and conservation. The pupil's book has color pictures for lessons where color is important. Students will appreciate the interesting writing style of this book. The teacher's manual is written and designed with inexperienced teachers in mind. Surrounding the pupil page are the answer key, discussion questions, stories, and other helpful teaching aids. Preparation for extra activities is economical and timesaving for teachers. |

Grade 6 This course contains 37 lessons, including reviews. It covers the solar system, energy, food chains, electricity and magnetism, body systems and health, and the earth with its support of life. The book's theme strongly emphasizes how God designed the earth for life and designed life for the earth. The spiritual tone is drawn from the book of Isaiah. The book also imparts the values of good stewardship. The teacher's manual contains a copy of each pupil page, plus answer keys, lesson guides, and other helpful teaching aids. |

Grade 7 The hardcover textbook has many full-color pictures and illustrations. It is divided into eight units. Each unit is further divided into six or more sections. Reviews are included at the end of each unit and at the end of each quarter. Each unit ends with a test, and a final test completes the course. The book theme, "God's Orderly World," frequently shows the orderliness in the laws and designs of God's Creation. Book One -- Grade 5 This nature series cultivates an alert, receptive, and appreciative attitude for the vast variety of plants and animals the Creator has given. This first book of the series begins with insects, which are the most easily found and handled of all animal groups. Students are encouraged to start an insect collection as a satisfying and rewarding hobby. Later units deal with birds, arachnids, myriapods, earthworms, flowers, and reptiles. Altogether there 30 lessons divided into 5 units spread out over 166 pages. Each unit is well illustrated and will create a high level of interest. The hardcover teacher's edition has answer keys and ideas for presenting the lessons as well as additional information. |

Book One -- Grade 8 Both this book and the one following (for Grades 9 and 10) have been written to guide students in their growing awareness of the orderly world around them, its potential usefulness to the glory of God, and God's true relation to it as revealed in His Word. Men have performed experiment after experiment to learn the whys and hows of electricity, heat, weather, plants, and almost every other feature of God's orderly world. Because science is orderly, many conclusions have been reached that are worthy of knowing and teaching. Investigating God's Orderly World Books One and Two are a collection of some of the more important discoveries of orderliness. The information was gathered from many sources and reviewed for scientific accuracy. Many experiments are suggested to explain and illustrate the facts presented. In this way, the book promotes a practical working knowledge of the laws and wonders of God's orderly world. The units in this hardbound textbook are arranged to introduce concepts in a logical order. Each unit begins with an introductory page, which explains the Scriptural attitude that should be cultivated as the study progresses, stimulates interest with challenging questions, and acquaints the student with new vocabulary for the unit. Each unit is well illustrated with many original drawings and photographs. The units are divided into sections with study exercises for each section. At the end of each unit, study exercises provide review of the vocabulary and of the important facts and concepts studied. These are the titles of the 12 units in Book One: "What Is Science?" "Fundamentals of God's World," "The Starry Heavens," "The Force of Gravity," "Heat Energy," "Weather," "The Planet Earth," "Life on the Earth," "Fire," "Parasitic Diseases," "Food and Digestion," and "Agriculture." The hardbound teacher's manual suggests procedures for teaching each unit. An outline of the major concepts to be taught in each unit is also included for the teacher's convenience. An answer key and a list of suggested equipment for each unit makes this guides very useful. |
